What I hope to learn

I will be returning to the ODSSEY newsmagazine staff as the design manager next year. Because of this I enrolled in the Grady Journalism Academy in order to learn more about the principles of design. I want my knowledge of design to grow, and want to be able to design pages somewhat easily. I want to focus mostly on flow and contrast, since those are two elements that sometimes give me trouble. I would also like to improve my skills in Photoshop. This week will give me a chance to learn and ask questions easily.

First Blog Assignment

As next year's copy editor, I hope to familiarize myself more with InDesign and how layout and design work. Although I won't be directly involved with laying out my school newspaper, I want to help out page editors to showcase articles and photos and to make their page appealing.

Learning InDesign will definitely be a task, but I'm confident that by using it every day to produce a newspaper, I'll be more than familiar with its tools and purposes.
