Dynamic

The Dynamic, Grady Journalism Academy 2012's newspaper. After thinking hard enough to tire us all out, we reached a decision. Awesome collaboration, we even thought of a name for each section and it all flows together. Great work y'all, I'm glad that we could finally finish the work that we had to for the day. Now just to put it all together.

The Dynamic

YAY! We are now The Dynamic... great work guys and girls :) Now its down to the nitty gritty... I think to be more efficient and less stressed we definitely have to work together and be very opened minded about ideas. I think at the beginning of the class everyday we should go through what needs to be done that day and what we could be pulled into the paper. We definitely need a checklist for each day. Let's do this guys! I believe in us!

Finally we did it!!!

So after what seemed to be like 5 hrs we finally were able to come up with the name for our paper and the names for each of the sections. I am so happy that we finally got it out of the way! That is just one less thing that we have to worry about in the future. Now we have to look forward to putting together the entire paper..... I am not sure yet if I am excited about putting together a paper or if I am going to dread doing it. A good thing is that I think that the work flow that we designated on the first day is going to help us out a bunch, and I think that we can jump in wherever we are needed and help out who ever may be swamped with things to do. I am very confident that what ever comes our way in the next couple days we will be prepared for it.

Just some ideas

Okay so, I don't know very much about work flow. I think the most important thing, though, is that we have communication between all of us, especially when it comes to jumps. When my newspaper had jumps, it was horrendous because no one knew who was cutting what or what page stories continued on.

Consistency's pretty important too, right? I always feel weird when I'm reading a newspaper, and spacing is different on one page than the other. We could probably fix that just by looking over each other's pages. "Hey, does this look right?"

Regarding dividing the work flow, I don't see how it can be any more divided than having each of us laying out a page. We could maybe have a specific person peer review another person's page each time, or have one person review everybody's.

Hallie Berry

Hey guys its your features editor, Hallie! This week is going to be crazy, but i think we have a great group of people that will work hard and get things done and in a timely manner. Im not very familiar with InDesign, but I am a quick learner and cant wait to see what is to come of our project! I would really like to learn how to layout photos and do wrap around text, so if anyone one is super duper handy with InDesign and Photoshop that would be much appreciated :) Can't wait for this week! We can do this!

What I hope to learn....

During this week at journalism camp I hope to really learn how to work Indesign and Photoshop very well. Since my EIC was part of the class of 2012 and is no longer on staff the whole staff and I cannot rely on her to help us get our pages done. I was the Op-Ed Editor last year so I know a little bit about Indesign and layouts and dummies so I am not totally in the dark when it comes to graphic design. I really really REALLY want to focus on how to work Indesign so I can become a pro at it so when Hallie is EIC come August and hopefully when I become EIC when I am a Senior I can help put people pull in stories, create ads, and make really cool double-trucks and layouts. This is going to be a great week and I cannot wait to dive into it!!

What I want to get out of this class....

I guess first I'll introduce myself. I am Carly Kanwisher, I go to George Walton Comprehensive High School (known as Walton High). Our school is known as one of the top schools in the state for academics and athletics. However, our newsmagazine unquestionably sucks. I hope that through this camp I will pick up tips to enhance the newsmag and make it look more visually appealing. I also want to learn how to simplify InDesign for freshman because the class is very short (45 min) and deadlines do not allow much time to be spent teaching students much more than the very basics. We receive no funding from the school and are completely reliant on ads to fund our newmag. We also design ads for our customers free of charge, so I hope to learn a few tricks about advertisement design. Well this was a quick post .... I think this is going to be a really fun class!
